The red dunes of Wadi Rum at dusk, with the first stars appearing above the mountains

Wadi Rum Protected Area · Jordan

Where the red sandmeets the Milky Way

Twelve tents in a quiet corner of Wadi Rum. Dinner from the zarb, breakfast at sunrise, and nothing between you and the sky.

The camp

Twelve tents against a sandstone wall, twenty minutes by 4×4 from Rum Village. No road noise, no neighbours. Just Salem’s family, a fire, and a very large sky.

Shafaq is the red glow that stays in the sky after the sun has gone. We built the camp around that hour: the domes face west, the fire is lit at dusk, and dinner is lifted from the zarb, the Bedouin oven under the sand, as the first stars come out.

Guest notes

What guests take home

Sample reviews written for this demo

We set an alarm for the balloon, came back and slept another hour in the dome with the sun coming through the glass. Salem’s zarb was the best meal of our two weeks in Jordan.

If you want to see the stars properly, this is the place. Tea on the fire, a clear sky, and the kids didn’t ask for a phone once.

I travel alone a lot and felt completely at ease here. The camel ride at sunset was slow and quiet, exactly what I wanted.

They arranged everything from Aqaba airport and back. The food was halal and generous, and the domes were warm even in January.

Questions we hear by the fire

What should I pack?

Closed shoes for sand and rock, sunglasses, a hat and sunscreen, and a warm layer for the evening, even in May. A small torch helps at night. Loose, modest clothing is comfortable in the desert and respectful in Rum Village.

How cold do the nights get?

Colder than most people expect. In summer, 35°C afternoons drop to around 18°C at night, and from December to February nights can fall close to 0°C. Every tent has heating and extra blankets, and the fire is lit every evening.

Is the food halal?

Yes. All our meat is halal and bought in Aqaba. Dinner is usually zarb, chicken and lamb slow-cooked under the sand, with salads, rice and taboon bread. Vegetarian meals are always available; tell us about allergies when you book. We don’t serve alcohol.

Is there Wi-Fi?

In the main tent, yes: enough for messages and photos, not for video calls. Mobile signal (Zain and Orange) works in most of the camp. Most guests are happy to switch off for a night.

When is the best season?

March to May and September to November: warm days and cool, clear nights. Summer days are hot, but the Milky Way is at its brightest from May to August. Winter is crisp and quiet, with cold nights and the clearest air.

How do I pay?

Nothing is paid online. We confirm your booking on WhatsApp, and you pay at the camp in cash (JOD), by Visa or Mastercard, or in advance by CliQ transfer.

What are check-in and check-out times?

Check-in from 2 pm, check-out by 11 am. Our 4×4 meets you at the Wadi Rum visitor centre between 2 and 6 pm; later arrivals by arrangement.
